Add Images, Text, and Custom Content to Dashboards and Reports

Custom content lets you add titles, text, stat widgets, task lists, and images to any dashboard, report, or template. This article covers each type of content block and walks through adding, resizing, replacing, and deleting images.

Custom Content Overview

Custom content helps you create more unique and interesting reporting for your clients. Basic content blocks, like titles, text boxes, stat widgets, and task lists, live under Content Blocks in the widget toolbar. Images have their own Images icon in the toolbar.

For more advanced custom content, see the "What's Next" section at the end of this article for links to custom metrics, embedded video and external content and custom data sets from Google Sheets.

Add a Title or Header

Titles and headers help break up content or highlight important information on any dashboard, report, or template.

Step 1: From the Report or Dashboard editor, click Content Blocks on the toolbar on the right, then drag and drop the header onto the page.

Step 2: Click the title to open the formatting menu, where you can change the title type to a preset option or change the custom text that displays.

Step 3: Under the Display tab, change the header's style, font size, alignment, or color. To resize it, click and drag the bottom right corner of the header.

Add a Custom Text Box

The custom text box lets you add notes, comments, links, and supplemental information to your dashboards and reports.

Step 1: From the Report or Dashboard editor, click Content Blocks on the widget menu on the right, then drag and drop the text box onto the page.

Step 2: Click the text box to edit it. Start writing, or type / to view commands. To format, highlight your text, then use the tools for bolding, alignment, bullet lists, or different font sizes.

Step 3: Click the plus icon (+) to insert variables that update dynamically.

Text boxes have a built-in spell checker. When the text box is active, misspelled words are underlined in red. To configure it, hover over the red or green dot at the bottom right of the text box to open the on/off button and settings, where you can change what the spell checker suggests or ignores.

Add a Stat Widget

Stat widgets match the design of your other widgets, but don't contain any data. The value a stat widget displays is whatever you choose to enter.

Step 1: From the Report or Dashboard editor, click Content Blocks on the toolbar on the right, then drag and drop the stat widget onto the page.

Step 2: Click the widget to expand the menu on the right, then enter a custom title and value.

Add an Image to a Dashboard or Report

Add your client's logo, custom graphics, or any visual to capture their brand identity.

Step 1: Open the report editor or Edit My Dashboard section.

Step 2: Click the Images icon in the toolbar, then click, drag, and drop the Image widget onto the page.

Step 3: Click the widget to select it, then click Choose image on the sidebar to the right to open the media library.

Step 4: The media library shows all images uploaded across your account, so you can reuse them across Clients. Click Upload in the upper right, or drag and drop images into the window to add new ones. Click the image you want, then click Insert in the bottom left.

Step 5: Once inserted, move the widget by clicking and dragging it, or resize it by dragging the bottom right corner. Click Save to capture your changes.

You can also choose how the image fits inside the widget:

Contain

The entire image fits within the widget, and may add empty space around the image to do so

Cover

The image fills the entire widget, cropping some of its width or height

Fill

Forces the image to fit inside the widget, changing its dimensions to do so

None

Shows the raw, full-size image with focus on the center

Add an image via URL

Step 1: Follow Steps 1-3 above to open the media library.

Step 2: In the media library pop-up, click the By URL tab, then paste the image URL. Then click Add to Media Library.

If the image isn't currently hosted, you can host it using a service like Imgur. Only use images for which you have a confirmed license.

Remove or Replace an Image

Step 1: From the report editor or while editing a dashboard, click the image widget you want to edit.

Step 2: Hover over the image preview on the sidebar to the right, then click the red X to remove the image from this widget.

Removing the image affects only the widget you're editing. It won't change any other widgets using the same image, and it won't remove the image from your media library.

To replace the image instead, click the pencil icon, then select a new image from the media library or insert an image URL.

Permanently Delete an Image From the Media Library

Heads up: Deleting an image from the media library immediately removes it from every widget where it appears. This can't be undone.

Step 1: Navigate to a widget displaying the image you want to delete. Click the ellipsis menu in the upper right, then click Edit.

Step 2: On the sidebar to the right, hover over the image preview, then click the pencil icon to open the media library.

Step 3: In the media library, hover over the image you want to delete. A small red trash can appears in the upper right corner of the image tile. Click it.

Step 4: Confirm the deletion in the pop-up by selecting Delete.

Deleted files no longer display on your dashboards and reports. If you don't insert a new image in the widget's place, client dashboards and reports sent after the deletion will show "Please select an image."

FAQ

What image sizes and file types can I use?

The maximum size for an image is 1MB, and the accepted file types are SVG, PNG, and JPEG.

I pasted an image URL, but the image isn't displaying. Why?

Double-check that the URL ends with a file type, like .jpg or .png. If there's no file type at the end, the URL points to a webpage, not an image.

What do the image fit options mean?

They control how the image sits inside the widget: Contain fits the whole image (and may add empty space), Cover fills the widget (and may crop), Fill stretches the image to fit, and None shows the raw, full-size image centered.

What happens if I delete an image that's still in a widget?

It's removed from every widget using it right away, and this can't be undone. Any widget without a replacement image will show "Please select an image" on client dashboards and reports.
