KPIs
KPIs give you a single place to track, target, and monitor the metrics that matter most to your clients. KPIs are available at both the account and client levels and replace the previously separate Goals and Alerts sections. All existing Goals and Alerts were automatically converted to KPIs, so your tracking continued without any disruption.
Create KPIs directly from any dashboard or report without leaving the page
See live metric data while you set targets and alerts
Display KPIs as progress bars, line charts, benchmarks, or stat views
Add KPIs as widgets to reports and custom dashboards
Build a KPI from a custom metric
All your existing goal widgets in reports and dashboards continue to work, all existing alerts continue to trigger on their current schedules, and creation options (one-time, recurring, etc.) remain the same as before.
How to Create a KPI
KPIs let you set and track the performance of any metric at the client or account level, and get notified when things are going well or off track. Common examples include tracking Google Ads spend, Facebook Ads clicks, a custom metric, or data pulled in from a Google Sheet.
To get started, open a Report or Dashboard.
Step 1: Click KPIs on the right sidebar.
Step 2: Click Add KPI in the slide-out panel.
Every KPI has 4 parts:
Choose a metric so the KPI knows what it's tracking
Filter your chosen metric so tracking is precise and specific
Add a target value and a condition that the KPI will monitor and react to
Optionally, set an alert condition and value so you're notified based on your own criteria if the KPI is off track
Step 3: Choose a metric that your KPI will track. You can pick from integration metrics, your own custom metrics, or use Google Sheets to pull in alternative data.
Step 4: With a metric selected, click the Filters icon at the top to apply the same filters to the KPI metric that you would add when filtering a widget on a dashboard or report.
Step 5: Click the Target icon.
Step 6: Choose either a One-time target or a Recurring target for a KPI that tracks repeatedly.
Step 7: Use the drop-downs to select the appropriate options for this KPI.
Time Period | Repeat daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually |
Condition | The condition that the KPI will trigger under: Greater than, Greater than or Equal to, Less than, Less than or Equal to, Exactly equal to, Increase by, Decrease by |
Target Value | The value the condition applies to, which is measured within the interval |
Description | Optional custom descriptor used on the KPIs table |
You can save the KPI now by clicking the bottom-right Save KPI button, or continue adding a notification component.
Step 8: Click the Alert icon to add an optional alert for this KPI. Adding an alert means you'll know immediately when a client's key metrics hit important KPI thresholds.
Step 9: Choose a condition, value, and interval for the alert. The alert uses the same fields as the target: Time Period, Condition, Target Value, and Description.
Step 10: Click Save KPI in the bottom right when finished.
Step 11: Click the X in the top right of the window to leave the KPI edit window.
This KPI can now be dragged onto your dashboard or report like any other widget.
Review the Account-level KPI Table
The account-level KPI table shows all KPIs across the clients you have access to and lets you filter, edit, clone, refresh, or delete KPIs in one place.
Step 1: From anywhere in your account, click KPIs on the left sidebar to open the account-level KPI page.
From here, you can view all KPIs across your clients, track account-level KPIs, or add new KPIs.
Step 2: Click Client in the top left of the KPI table to quickly filter which KPIs are visible.
The KPI table also shows which KPIs have notifications attached by displaying a bell icon to the right of the KPI name.
Manage, Refresh or Delete a KPI
You can take quick actions on any KPI directly from the account-level KPI table.
Step 1: Click the Ellipsis to the far right of a KPI row.
Step 2: Choose Edit to change the existing KPI, Clone to copy it for another client, Refresh to pull the latest data, or Delete to remove it.
KPI data refreshes automatically every 12 hours. If a KPI uses a custom metric, it still refreshes every 12 hours, but the custom metric updates in real time when viewed directly on a dashboard or report.
Because of this, the custom metric totals within a KPI, dashboard, or report may not always match exactly. You can manually refresh a KPI at any time using the Refresh option in the ellipsis menu to show the latest data.
To delete a KPI, click the Ellipsis to the far right of the KPI row in the account-level KPI table, then click Delete.
FAQ
What month is used for reporting with KPIs?
KPIs always use the current month.
How often do KPIs refresh?
KPI data refreshes automatically every 12 hours. If a KPI uses a custom metric, the KPI still refreshes every 12 hours, while the custom metric updates in real time when viewed on a dashboard or report, so totals may not always match exactly. You can also manually refresh a KPI from the ellipsis menu in the account-level KPI table to see the latest data.
Can Google Sheets data be used as part of a KPI?
Yes, Google Sheets data can be used as part of a KPI.
Why can't I use the Google Local Services Ads "Charged Leads" metric as part of a KPI?
The Google Local Services Ads "Charged Leads" metric can't currently be added to a KPI because it lacks a date filter and therefore can't be broken down by date.
Can all data sources be used as part of a KPI?
Not yet. The following data sources aren't currently available to be used as part of a KPI:
Google Lighthouse
Unbounce
Invoca
Campaign Monitor
Active Campaign
Brevo
Bird Eye
Grade Us
Vendasta
Yelp
Rank Tracker
Site Auditor
