AI Summary generates a written summary of a chart or graph widget, a report page, a dashboard section, or an entire report. It saves your team time and gives clients a clear, professionally written overview of their data without extra manual work.

You can add an AI Summary as a widget to any report page or dashboard section to summarize everything on that page.

Step 1: Open the report or edit the dashboard section you want to summarize.

Step 2: At the top of the right toolbar, click Build With AI.

Step 3: Drag AI Summary from the menu onto the page.

The AI summary is generated based on the page's contents at the time you add the widget. It's created in the client's preferred language, though you can override this at any time by prompting the AI to generate the summary in a different language.

The summary is generated in a few seconds. Once it's done, you can customize it using the textbox tools.

To guide the summary's tone, language, or focus, enter additional prompts, then click Update summary.

To have the summary automatically update, turn on auto-refresh. Click the AI Summary widget, then in the sidebar on the right, click the toggle. Green means auto-refresh is enabled for that widget.

The AI Summary widget can also summarize every page in a report at once, not just a single section.

Step 1: Open the report you want to summarize.

Step 2: Click Build with AI on the right.

Step 3: Drag AI Summary from the menu onto the page and wait for the initial summary to finish generating.

Step 4: Click the AI Summary widget.

Step 5: Click Full Report to expand the summary. After loading, the widget displays a summary of the entire report.

You can also guide the content using the AI prompt box. Customize tone, focus, context, length, and structure with prompting.

Step 6: Enter your prompt.

Step 7: Click Update summary. The widget reloads and displays a refreshed AI Summary based on your prompt.

Continue adjusting and building on your prompt until you're happy with the output.

Once generated, an AI Summary widget can be edited the same way as a regular textbox widget.

Step 1: Click the Ellipsis in the upper right of the widget, then click Edit. If you're in a report, you can simply click the widget instead.

Step 2: Once the widget is in edit mode, change the text size, color, or alignment, or edit the generated text directly. Highlight the text to display the formatting choices.

Note: Any edits made through the widget toolbar are reset when the summary auto-refreshes. Refinements made using the "Guide your summary" prompt option are kept and reapplied with each refresh. See the FAQ below for details.

AI Summary can also generate insights directly on any dashboard stat or chart widget based on your data.

Step 1: Hover over the widget you want insights for.

Step 2: Click the ✨ icon to generate AI insights.

Click the Ellipsis in an AI Summary widget to edit it. You'll see a toggle option labeled "Auto-refresh summary" that you can turn on or off.

A refresh triggers in the following scenarios:

Yes, if the Auto-refresh toggle is turned on, but only for the first time the report is opened after it's sent. For example, if a monthly report is sent on the first day of the month, the first user to open the summary sees an updated version. Anyone who opens the report after that sees a cached version.

No. Any edits made using the widget toolbar are reset when the summary auto-refreshes. However, refinements made using the "Guide your summary" AI prompt option are kept and reapplied with each refresh. For example, if you prompted the summary to use casual, conversational language and bullet format only, that prompt reapplies with every refresh.
