Filter and Organize Keywords in Rank Tracker and Reports

Filter and organize your Rank Tracker keywords by location, language, tags, and stars in your dashboard or reports.

Location-Based Metrics and Filters

Every keyword requires a location to be tracked, so it's important to understand the location-based metrics and filters available to you. In both the dashboard and reporting, you can toggle the Location column on or off and filter by any location you're tracking.

Rank Tracker Dashboard

To toggle the Location column on or off within your dashboard view, click the Settings Slider within the Rank Tracker dashboard. Tick the box to turn the Location column on, or untick it to turn it off.

To filter your dashboard results by location, open the filter menu and choose Search Location Is. You'll see a list of the locations already associated with your tracked keywords. Select the location you want to focus on, and the Rank Tracker dashboard will update to show only the keywords tied to that location.

Location Filters in Reports and Custom Dashboards

To show the Location column on a Rank Tracker Table widget:

Step 1: In edit mode, click the Ellipsis menu on the widget and select Edit.

Step 2: In the Data tab, go to the Metrics section, search for Location, then select it to add the column to your table widget.

To filter a widget by location, switch to edit mode and select the widget you want to adjust. If you're working with multiple Rank Tracker widgets, use multi-select to update them all at once. With the widget selected, go to the Data tab and apply the Search Location filter to display only keywords associated with your chosen location.

To turn the Location column on for a client user, follow the steps in this article.

Language-Based Metrics and Filters

Every keyword also requires a language to track, so the same kind of filtering is available for language as well. In both the dashboard and reporting, you can toggle the Language column on or off and filter by any language you're tracking.

Dashboard

To toggle the Language column on or off within your dashboard view, click the Settings Slider within the Rank Tracker module. Untick the box to turn it off.

To filter by language, click Add Filter at the top of the Rank Tracker dashboard, then choose Search Language. From there, select the language you want to filter your keywords by.

To turn the Language column on for a client user, follow the steps in this article.

Reports

Open a report and navigate to the page with the Rank Tracker table widget. Click the Ellipsis on the widget to open the edit view, go to the Data tab, then search for the metric in the field and add it to your table widget.

To filter your table widget by language, open the widget in edit mode and go to the Data section. Find the Language filter, select it, then choose the languages that match your keywords.

Displaying Tagged Keywords

Tagging is a simple way to organize, sort, and categorize your keywords. Once keywords are tagged, you can display and filter by those tags in both the Rank Tracker dashboard and in your reports.

In the Rank Tracker Integration

Display Tags as a Column

Step 1: Click the Settings button to the right of the time period selector, then tick the Tags checkbox under Attributes.

Step 2: This adds a Tags column to the table view.

Unlike other table columns, you can't sort by tag name. This is a technical limitation, since multiple tags can be attached to a single keyword.

Filter Keywords by Tag

Step 1: Click the Add Filter button at the top of the Rank Tracker dashboard. When filtering by tag, you can choose between two options: "Is," which filters by a single tag, and "Is one of", which lets you include multiple tags in the filter.

After clicking Apply Filter, the dashboard instantly updates to show only the keywords with the tags you checked, and the graphs update accordingly.

To remove the filter and show all keywords again, regardless of tags, follow the same steps and uncheck all tag boxes under the Tags filter.

In a PDF Report

To set up filtering keywords by tag, navigate to your reports interface.

Step 1: Create or open a scheduled or downloadable report.

Step 2: Add an SEO --> Rank Tracker section, or navigate to an already existing SEO --> Rank Tracker section.

Step 3: Hover over the widget you want to filter and click the Ellipsis icon in the upper-right corner.

Step 4: In the menu that appears, you'll see a Tags section listing every tag you've created for this Client. Just as in the dashboard, check the boxes for the tags you want displayed.

Only keywords with the selected tags will display in that widget. You can apply different tag filters to different widgets by repeating these steps for each one.

Manage Starred Keywords

Starring important keywords lets you track your most crucial ones more effectively. Once keywords are starred, their star status carries over to both the Rank Tracker dashboard and your reports.

In the Rank Tracker Integration

First, starring a keyword forces it to the top of the table display. Even when you sort your keyword list by name, rank, or other metric, the "Starred" variable overrides any other sorting, and the starred keywords will always appear first, at the very top.

Second, you can choose to filter your keywords so that only starred keywords are displayed in your table view.

To do so, click the Add Filter button at the top of the Rank Tracker dashboard, then select Starred Keyword.

The dashboard view instantly updates to show data for starred keywords only. Along with the table, the graphs update to display data solely for your starred keywords for this Client.

To return to a display with all keyword data, click Add Filter again and select All Keywords from the Filters dropdown.

In a Report

You can filter keywords in reports using stars, just as you can in the dashboard.

Step 1: First, navigate to your reports interface. Create or open a scheduled or downloadable report.

Step 2: Add your Rank Tracker widget via Integrations Metrics > Rank Tracker, or navigate to an already existing Rank Tracker section.

Step 3: Hover over the widget and click the Ellipsis icon that appears in its upper-right corner.

Step 4: In the slide-out menu, click Data, and you'll see an option labeled Starred Keywords. Click the dropdown to the right to toggle between displaying All Keywords and only the Starred Keywords.

This has the same effect as choosing the Starred Keywords filter in the dashboard. When toggled on, this report section displays only data for starred keywords in both the graphs and the table.

Just as in the dashboard, all starred keywords appear at the top of the keyword list in the SEO Rank Tracker report sections and stay there regardless of any sort applied.
