This article covers selecting one or more keywords at once, applying and removing custom tags, starring your most important keywords, and deleting keywords individually or by location.
Ensure Rank Tracker is connected and that keywords are added. If you haven't set that up yet, see Connect Rank Tracker first.
Select All (or a Range) of Keywords
Rather than ticking each keyword's checkbox one by one, you can select a whole range of keywords at once. This makes bulk actions, like tagging or deleting, much faster. You'll use this shortcut throughout the sections below any time you need to work with more than one keyword.
Step 1: Tick the checkbox next to the first keyword in your range.
Step 2: Hold your keyboard's SHIFT key, then tick the checkbox next to the last keyword in your range. This selects every keyword in between.
Apply or Remove Custom Keyword Tags
Tagging keywords is a simple way to organize, sort, and categorize your keyword list.
You can add tags when you first add keywords, or apply them at any time from the Rank Tracker dashboard.
Apply Tags When Adding Keywords
Open the Add Keywords Wizard as normal. The final step (Step 4) of the wizard lets you apply tags to the keywords you're adding. Existing tags are shown, and you can filter to only the tags used for this Client by clicking Client.
Tick the box next to any existing tag to apply it. To add a brand new tag, type it into the box, then click the Plus button.
There's no limit to the number of tags a keyword can have.
Apply Tags to Existing Keywords
Step 1: Tick the checkboxes next to the keyword(s) you want to tag. (See Select Keywords above to select a range at once.) As soon as you check the first box, a Tag button appears at the top of the keywords column.
Step 2: Click the Tag button. A flyout window appears.
Step 3: Type in the tag you want to apply and click Save.
Remove Tags
Tags are removed one at a time, on a keyword-by-keyword basis.
Step 1: Open the Settings Slider and turn on the Tags column.
Step 2: Click the X icon on the tag you want to remove.
Add or Remove Starred Keywords
Starring lets you flag your most important keywords so they're easy to track. Starred keywords also stay at the top of your keyword table, even if you sort by name, rank, or another metric.
Step 1: Navigate to your Rank Tracker dashboard.
Step 2: Click the Star Icon just to the left of the keyword you want to flag.
Step 3: To remove a star, click the Star Icon again.
Delete Keywords from Tracking
When you no longer need to track a keyword, remove it directly from the keyword table.
Step 1: Go to Rank Tracker within the Client of your choice, then scroll to the keyword table.
Step 2: Tick the checkbox next to each keyword you want to remove. (See Select Keywords above to select a range at once.)
Step 3: Once at least one box is checked, click Delete in the top left of the keyword table.
Step 4: In the confirmation window, click Delete.
Delete All Keywords for a Single Location
Rank Tracker lets you track SERPs across multiple locations. If you want to stop tracking one location while keeping keyword history for your other locations, you can delete every keyword tied to that location at once.
Step 1: Open the Settings Slider and turn on the Locations column, if it isn't already on, so you can confirm you're removing the correct location.
Step 2: Click Add Filter at the top of your Rank Tracker dashboard and select the location you want to remove. This filters your keyword table to show only the keywords tracked for that location.
Step 3: Tick the checkboxes next to all keywords shown (see Select Keywords above to select them all at once).
Step 4: Click Delete, then confirm your decision when prompted.
FAQ
Can I restore keywords I deleted by mistake?
Yes. If you accidentally delete the wrong keywords, contact our Support team within 90 days, and we can restore them for you.
Is there a limit to how many tags a keyword can have?
No. You can apply as many tags as you'd like to any keyword.
Can I sort my keyword table by tag?
No. You can filter by tag, but you can't sort by tag name, since a single keyword can have more than one tag attached.
Why do starred keywords stay at the top of my list?
Starring overrides any other sort order. Starred keywords always appear at the top, even if you sort by name, rank, or another metric.
