About Site Auditor
Site Auditor is part of our SEO tools package. It helps you discover and fix on-site SEO issues, boost your clients' rankings, and improve the on-site experience for their website visitors.
The auditor scans for 40+ of the most common technical SEO issues. Here's a list of what we scan for, and how each issue affects your SEO.
Before you start: Site Auditor is available as a paid add-on for accounts created before November 2023. To learn more, see Billing and Subscriptions or reach out to our support team.
Enable Site Auditor
Step 1: Open the Client where you'd like to connect Site Auditor, then click the Data Sources tab at the top.
Step 2: Click the blue Connect Data Source button in the upper right corner of the page.
Step 3: Search for Site Auditor in the search bar at the top, then click the Site Auditor card.
Step 4: Click Enable at the bottom left. After a few moments, the page redirects to the Site Auditor settings, where you can fill out the form to suit your needs.
Step 5: Click Save at the bottom left to save your settings and complete the connection.
You need to set up the crawl settings to finish connecting, but you can always change them later. See the "Customize Your Crawl Settings" section below for what each setting does.
Once your Site Auditor is enabled, it automatically runs a first crawl using the default crawl settings. When you open the Site Auditor dashboard, you'll see it initializing while that first audit runs.
Find the Site Auditor
Once Site Auditor is enabled, you'll find it under the Default Dashboard section in the left-hand panel of the screen.
Run a One-Time Audit
Site audits are a key part of your SEO toolkit. On-site SEO is often neglected in favor of off-site work, but it can be just as important for high rankings. Site Auditor analyzes a site and tells you exactly which on-site items need attention.
Before you run an audit, make sure you've enabled Site Auditor (see above) and set your crawl settings to fit your needs.
Step 1: Navigate to Site Auditor within your Client of choice, then click the Perform Audit button in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 2: In the window that appears, click Start Crawl. The auditor now crawls your website.
An audit can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours, depending on the number of pages crawled, the site's structure, and the current load on our servers. Our auditor is designed to run slowly and gently, so it doesn't overload the website with traffic.
Your audit runs in the background, so you can keep working, like creating reports, and come back once it's done.
Customize Your Crawl Settings
After you've enabled Site Auditor and run an audit, you can adjust the crawl settings for future audits.
Step 1: Open the Site Auditor dashboard, then click the settings slider icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Switch to the Settings tab, then click Manage to open your crawl configuration.
Step 3: On the settings overview, click Edit.
Step 4: Adjust any of the settings below, then click Save at the bottom left.
Here's what each crawl setting does:
Include sub-domains | When enabled, the auditor will also crawl subdomains based on your URL. For example, if the Client URL is |
Page crawl limit | The number of pages the auditor will crawl. Use this to limit how many web pages we scan during the audit |
Schedule | Set a weekly or monthly schedule, or keep it disabled. See the "Schedule Recurring Audits" section below |
Excluded URLs / Paths | Specify the pages you would like the auditor to exclude from being crawled |
Ignored Tests | Choose specific tests to hide from your results |
Ignored Pages | Choose specific pages to hide from your results (available after your first audit) |
Ignored Page Tests | Ignore specific tests on specific pages (available after your first audit) |
To learn more about exclusions, see Site Auditor FAQ.
Schedule Recurring Audits
Instead of running each audit by hand, you can set Site Auditor to run automatically on a schedule.
Step 1: From within a Client, open the Site Auditor dashboard. Click the settings slider icon, switch to the Settings tab, then click Manage.
Step 2: Click Edit at the bottom right of the settings list.
Step 3: Click the Schedule dropdown, then select Weekly or Monthly. This reveals the other options, like day of the week (or day of the month) and time of day.
Step 4: Set a page crawl limit and any exclusions you'd like, then click Save in the bottom-left corner. Your audits will now run automatically on the next scheduled date.
The scheduled time follows the time zone in your Client settings.
Understand the Site Auditor Dashboard
When you open Site Auditor, the dashboard shows your most recent audit scores. Here's how the dashboard is laid out:
1. Tests, Pages, and History Tabs (Left sidebar)
Tests | Acts like a home button. Clicking it brings you to the main results page of the latest audit |
Pages | Loads the pages that were crawled, with their scores and statuses. Sorted by status code by default |
History | Shows every audit you've run for this Client, including scores, audit duration, pages crawled, and statuses. Click any of the three most recent audit dates to load its results |
2. The Action Section (Top buttons)
Settings | Opens the settings panel, where you can view Filters, Crawl Settings, Schedule, and Ignored Tests for the current audit |
Share | Download the results as a PDF or XLS, or share the report with a link |
Fullscreen | Switches the dashboard into presentation mode for a cleaner, fullscreen view |
Perform Audit | Runs a new audit for the Client |
Add Filter | Refines and organizes your results with these options:
|
3. The Score and Stats Section
This shows key audit details, like the overall website score, the date it was crawled, how many issues are critical, how many are warnings, and more.
4. The Test Section
This table lists every test performed and the number of pages that failed each one. Use the search field to find a specific test. Clicking a test loads its detailed results.
View Past Audits and Compare
Click the History tab from the main section to view past audit results. History shows all the audits you've run for the Client, along with their scores, duration, pages crawled, and statuses.
Clicking an audit loads its results on the same page. You can also compare results between two audits. For more details, see Site Auditor FAQ.
Delete Old Audit Data
You can remove older audit data from the History section of the Site Auditor.
Step 1: Open the History section. Since this section is date-interactive, select the correct date range to show the audits you want to manage.
Step 2: Check the box beside any past audits you'd like to delete, then click the Delete button at the top left of the table.
We keep historical site audit data for 60 days. After that, it's automatically removed. If you want to keep long-term records, you can download your site audit data as a PDF report.
