How to Filter Data on Dashboards and Reports

Filters give you the option to help you organize or display a specific set of data in your Reports and Dashboards. This article covers how to set and change filters throughout your AgencyAnalytics account.

Using Filters to Highlight Important Data

When you're building a Report or Dashboard for your Client, you can apply filters to widgets, enabling you to display the precise data your Clients are looking for.

You can also filter data source dashboards to quickly check-in on important ad campaigns, view by specific Search Networks, and more.

Filtering Data Source Dashboards

By editing user permissions and access, your account Admin can adjust which data source dashboards and metrics are visible to each user.

Data Source dashboards are the prebuilt dashboards available by default for each integration. These dashboards can be filtered by many different data points, depending on what's available from the integrations API.

Click Add Filter at the top of the dashboard, then choose what data points to filter by.

In our example, the Google Analytics API provides dimensions like Audience, Country, Channel Type, and even Page, so you can filter the entire dashboard by any of them.

Where do I find my filters?

The filters are found under the Add Filter button on integration dashboards and whenever you customize a widget.

In the example below, you will see the following filters for the Google Analytics 4 integration.

Filter by:

  • Audience

  • Channel Type

  • Country

  • Date Interval

  • Event

  • Hostname

  • Key Event Tracking

  • Landing page

  • Region

  • Plus, some advanced filter options

How to Apply Filters to Dashboard and Report Widgets

Applying a filter in a dashboard

Applying a filter is as simple as selecting an option from any of the available filter drop-downs. The dashboard will immediately update with the new filter settings. You can also apply multiple filters at the same time.

When filters are applied, a notation will show in the top navigation bar to highlight which filters are active.

Applying a filter within a widget

Widget filters can be accessed by going to the Edit Widget window, clicking on the Ellipsis that appears when you hover over a widget with your mouse, and clicking Edit in the drop-down.

Below is an example of filters available on a Rank Tracker bar graph. Click the dropdown, then select a different option to filter the bar graph.

Why do my filters reset?

Whenever an integration dashboard is opened or you switch to another section, any selected filters will reset. We will always report the metrics unfiltered, so you will always have an unbiased view of your data.

Here's a tip if you want to save the filters from your integration dashboards: You can easily add what you see to your automated client reports via our add to report option.

This instantly creates a new section in a report that includes the exact widgets and filters that you've set in the integration.

Just click the Export button, then click + Add To Report.

Why are filters different for each integration?

The filters are determined by the available metrics and API instructions for each platform or integration. You will find an example below that shows separate filter options for Facebook Ads and Google Ads.

Facebook Ads

Google Ads

In the example above, Facebook Ads has filters regarding "Attribution" and other filter options that Google Ads doesn't have available, while Google Ads has separate available filters, such as Network and Campaign Type, that Facebook Ads doesn't have available.
