Before You Start
To avoid a failed connection or error when connecting MailChimp to a Client, the person connecting must have the username and password for the MailChimp account.
Connect MailChimp
Once you have the MailChimp username and password ready, follow these steps to connect MailChimp to a Client:
Step 1: Open the Client where you'd like to connect MailChimp, then click the Data Sources tab at the top.
Step 2: Click the blue Connect Data Source button in the upper right corner of the page.
Step 3: Search for MailChimp in the search bar at the top, then click the MailChimp card.
Step 4: Click Connect New Account to open the connection page.
Step 5: In the pop-up authorization window, enter your MailChimp username and password, then log in.
If you have multiple client accounts connected to your MailChimp account, you'll be prompted to select the account you wish to connect.
Once the integration is complete, your client's MailChimp metrics will be available in AgencyAnalytics. If your MailChimp integration ever disconnects, you can learn how to Reauthorize and Reconnect a Data Source.
FAQ
Why is campaign data from MailChimp missing in AgencyAnalytics?
Before assuming there's an integration issue, verify whether campaigns were actually sent during the reporting period. If no campaigns were sent during your selected date range, no data will appear in AgencyAnalytics for that timeframe.
Step 1: Check the campaign activity directly in MailChimp for the specified period.
Step 2: Confirm that campaigns were sent and data exists.
Step 3: Capture a screenshot of the relevant campaign data in MailChimp to validate expectations.
Why are my MailChimp metrics showing 0%?
If your MailChimp campaign metrics display as 0% in AgencyAnalytics, the report's date range likely doesn't cover the campaign's activity period.
Step 1: Open the report or dashboard containing the widgets.
Step 2: Adjust the date range to include the period when the campaign recorded activity.
Step 3: Apply the new date range and refresh the widgets so they populate with the correct metrics.
Why did my MailChimp data stop appearing?
If MailChimp data stops appearing in AgencyAnalytics, it may be due to a lost permission or an expired access token.
Step 1: Remove the MailChimp account from AgencyAnalytics.
Step 2: Re-add it as a fresh connection to refresh permissions and tokens. This step often resolves data synchronization issues.
Why is there an Open Rate discrepancy between MailChimp and AgencyAnalytics?
AgencyAnalytics calculates Open Rate using data from MailChimp's API because MailChimp does not provide its native Open Rate metric through its API.
The formula used is:
Open Rate = (Unique Opens ÷ Deliveries) × 100
For example, if there are 296 unique opens and 800 deliveries, the Open Rate will be 37%.
MailChimp doesn't share how they calculate their in-app open rate, and it may use a different calculation or include bot filtering, which they don't apply to the raw data they send us via the API.
Why am I seeing MailChimp campaigns for multiple clients?
You'll need a MailChimp Agencies account to separate different client campaigns when connecting. Otherwise, AgencyAnalytics will show all MailChimp campaigns in a single dashboard, since they're shared under a single account via the API.
Why can't I see the currency in AgencyAnalytics? Why isn't the data matching?
If you haven't connected a supported e-commerce integration to your MailChimp account or built your own connection to pull from MailChimp's API, no currency or revenue data will be available in AgencyAnalytics.
You can check your e-commerce integration settings in MailChimp to make sure they're set up correctly. If you have any issues, connect with MailChimp support for help.
