GA4 Dimensions & Filters Available in AgencyAnalytics

Filters:

Channel Filter

The Channel filter is used to narrow widget data by traffic source categories (e.g., Organic Search, Paid Social, Direct). This is often referred to as filtering by “traffic” data. It’s especially useful when users want to focus on performance by marketing channel rather than by specific source/medium values.

Channel Type

The Channel Type filter lets you define whether the widget data should reflect User Acquisition (how the user was first acquired) or Session Acquisition (how the traffic was acquired during a specific session). This determines how the primary channel dimension is categorized.

So if you use first user default channel as a primary dimension from the GA4 screenshot, then the channel type must be first user default channel in AgencyAnalytics.

If a channel filter is applied natively in GA4, then the filter in AgencyAnalytics also needs to match. For example, if you are using the First User Default Channel Group filter (e.g., Organic) in AgencyAnalytics, you’ll need to apply the same Channel in the widget and set the Channel Type to First User Default Channel to replicate the setup accurately.

Page Filter

The Page filter in AgencyAnalytics maps to page path in GA4 (not available in the UI but it's still in the API) and has two main functions:

  1. Row Filtering: If the widget is using a page-based dimension (like Page Path), the filter can remove specific pages from being displayed in the widget.

  2. Data Exclusion: Regardless of the dimension used, it will also remove any totals associated with the specified page path from the overall calculations (e.g., sessions, conversions.)

Landing Page Filter

The Landing Page filter in AgencyAnalytics maps to landing page (not including query strings) in GA4 and has two main functions:

  1. Row Filtering: If the widget is using a landing-page-based dimension (like Landing Page), this filter can remove specific landing pages from being displayed in the widget.

  2. Data Exclusion: Regardless of the dimension used, it will also remove any totals associated with sessions that started on the specified landing page (e.g., sessions, conversions, engagement time).

This filter only affects sessions based on where users first landed, it won’t include pages viewed later in the session.

Audience

Filters data based on predefined GA4 audiences (e.g., Returning Users, Purchasers, etc.), if any have been configured in GA4.

Event & Key Event Tracking

  • Event: Allows you to narrow data down to specific GA4 events (e.g., scroll, form_submit, video_start). It's event_name in GA4.

  • Key Event Tracking: Lets you focus only on those events flagged as key events in GA4 (previously called conversions). Note that key event filter can only interact with the following metrics: Key Events, Session Key Event Rate & User Key Event Rate).

    • Key Event is 'event name' in Google Analytics 4. “Key Event” filter in AgencyAnalytics is not based on a dimension — it’s a filter applied only to key-event-specific metrics. So on the GA4 side, you can use event name as a filter in explorer but when you use the following metrics; 'Key Events', 'Session Key Event Rate' & 'User Key Event Rate', GA4 automatically defines those as key events.

Source/Medium and Source/Medium Type

The Source / Medium filter allows you to narrow down widget data to specific traffic origin combinations — like google / organic or facebook / paid. This matches how GA4 defines source and medium, and is useful when troubleshooting performance by marketing channel or verifying traffic attribution for a particular campaign or platform. It affects both what’s displayed in the widget (when the dimension matches) and what data is included in overall metric totals.

The Source / Medium Type filter controls how attribution is handled, based on first-touch or last-touch logic. Simply put, if they use first user source/medium, then the source/medium type is user acquisition as an example:

To match data from GA4 screenshots, you need to align the Source / Medium Type with what’s shown in GA4, similar to how the Channel Type filter works.

  • If the screenshot shows first user source/medium - then the source/medium type in AA should be User Acquisition.

  • If the screenshot shows session source/medium - then the source/medium type in AA should be Traffic Aquisition.

For example:

  • If the GA4 screenshot shows a report using First User Source / Medium, set the Source / Medium Type in AgencyAnalytics to User Acquisition.t

  • If the report uses Session Source / Medium, set the filter to Traffic Acquisition.
