Instagram requires specific account setup and permissions for the user connecting the account. This article walks you through how to update the account setup and verify permissions, before re-authenticating the connection with AgencyAnalytics.

Before following these steps, Meta requires the Instagram account to be:

1️⃣ Check permission level of the linked Facebook Page

The user connecting Instagram needs to have:

  • Facebook Page Access

  • Full Permissions for the associated Facebook Page

The user should show up under "People with Facebook Access", where you can check their permissions. Click the ellipsis (...) to the right of the connecting user, then review permissions to be sure everything is turned on.

2️⃣ Check the Facebook account has Manage Access for the Instagram account

The connecting users Facebook account must have manage access for the Instagram account you are trying to connect. This can be managed in the Linked Accounts section on Facebook.

  1. Select the Facebook Business Page that manages the Instagram account

  2. On the next page, click Professional dashboard to the left

  3. Last, click Linked Accounts on the left

On the Linked Accounts page, it will tell you that the Facebook Account has access to manage the Instagram Account you are trying to connect.

This information is available only within the Facebook app itself, not within the Meta app.

3️⃣ Re-Authenticate the Connection in AgencyAnalytics

With the Page Access permissions confirmed, and the Facebook Page set to manage the Instagram account, you need to re-enter the Instagram credentials to re-authenticate the connection.

  1. Open the Client to which you are connecting Instagram

  2. Click Data Sources at the top, then on the Data Sources page, click Connect Data Source in the top right

  3. Search for Instagram or scroll to find it, then click the tile

  4. Click the grey Connect New Account button at the bottom, even if your account is already showing in the list

This launches the Facebook and Instagram authentication window.

  1. Sign into the Facebook account that you just verified was connected to Instagram

  2. On the next page of the popup, click Edit Settings

  3. Select all pages that you'd like to connect to AgencyAnalytics

  4. Click Next

On the following page, toggle all permissions to Yes. If some are disabled, Facebook may not give you access to your data. Click Done, then click Okay to finalize.

From there, you can choose the exact account you'd like to integrate to AgencyAnalytics, then hit "Save".
