Connect Facebook
To avoid a failed connection or error when integrating Facebook to a Client, the person connecting must have full Page Access to the Facebook page you'd like to connect, including:
Ads
Content
Messages
Comments
Linked Accounts
Community Activity
Insights
Settings
Access
Task Access
If those requirements are met, follow these steps to connect Facebook:
Step 1. Open the Client where you'd like to connect Facebook, then click the Data tab at the top.
Step 2. Click the blue Connect Data Source button in the upper right corner of the page.
Step 3. Search for Facebook in the search bar at the top, then click the Facebook card.
Step 4. Click the gray Plus + sign at the bottom to launch the authorization window.
Step 5. Follow the prompts in the OAuth window to verify and finalize the connection.
Step 6. With the connection authorized, you'll be redirected to the connections list to complete the connection. Click the circle next to the account name, then click Connect in the bottom left to finalize.
Once saved, Facebook will be connected, and you can begin adding Facebook metric widgets to dashboards and reports.
Show Data for Multiple Facebook Store Locations
Facebook supports linking multiple store locations to a main Facebook Page. When those locations are linked, AgencyAnalytics can show aggregated data for all store locations, or you can filter to a single store location.
Link Store Locations in Facebook Business Manager
Store locations must be linked using Facebook Business Manager. Once they are, your AgencyAnalytics dashboards and reports automatically show the store locations, and you can choose to view combined data or data for one specific store. Facebook requires you to:
Be the admin or editor of the main Page
Have a Page structure set up with a main Page
Once your stores are correctly added to your Pages structure on Facebook, add your stores to the Page structure in the "Store Locations" area of Facebook Business Manager. If you're stuck with anything above, see Facebook's full guide here.
Access Store Locations in AgencyAnalytics
Once your store locations are linked in Facebook Business Manager, connect the main Facebook Page to your AgencyAnalytics Client using the connection steps in the Connect Facebook section of this article. Your Client will automatically display the store locations.
Filter to a Specific Store Location
By default, AgencyAnalytics shows aggregated data for all store locations. You can use your dashboard or widget settings to specify a single store location at any time.
To select a specific location in your Facebook Social integration dashboard, click the + Add Filter button, then select Location.
You can then select the exact store you'd like to view data for.
To specify a location for Facebook Social widgets in your reports or custom dashboards, select the location you need in the Facebook Social widget's Location filter.
Facebook FAQ
Why is my client's Facebook Page not showing in the connection list?
This happens when a user tries to connect to a Facebook page without full Page Access permissions for that Facebook page. To fix this, follow these steps from Facebook to request the necessary page access from your client.
We also recommend connecting directly with your client to ensure they've enabled all required permissions: content, messages, community activity, ads, and insights. After confirming permissions, reauthorize the connection to ensure all Pages are visible.
Why can't I see Facebook audience data when other Facebook data is available?
Facebook metrics have different engagement minimums for data to be made available. When these minimums aren't met, audience data will show no value, while other data will display without issue.
While Facebook has not publicly stated why it does this, these restrictions were likely implemented to protect privacy and prevent the identification of individual users.
If all other Facebook data is displaying correctly but audience data is still missing, and the Page is above the minimums, Facebook may be restricting access to that data for privacy reasons. There's no workaround on our end in that case.
Why do my Post Engagement Rate or Page Follows widgets load slowly?
Widgets using Post Engagement Rate or Page Follows load more slowly than other Facebook widgets, especially on large date ranges (13+ months). This is a known limitation of Facebook's Posts API, which doesn't support date filtering.
AgencyAnalytics has to fetch a wider set of posts and filter them manually before displaying the data. Other Facebook metrics load faster because their APIs return data already filtered and aggregated.
If you're seeing slow load times, try using a shorter date range: one month or less will load significantly faster. If a longer date range is required, the slow load is expected and there's no workaround available.
Why doesn't the Page Post Engagement metric match the stat widgets for its underlying components?
AgencyAnalytics uses a time series of data points for these calculations rather than a snapshot of your current likes. Engagement rate is calculated on the date in question and compared against that date's tallies.
When you look at a window of multiple dates, each day in the series is checked and rolled up across the window. The "Total Likes" at the end of the series won't be the same as they were at the start. So if you have the same users at the beginning of the period, the widgets will match. If not, the two numbers can't be compared that way.
Why does my Facebook Page Likes count look different from what I see on Facebook?
If your business has multiple regional Facebook pages (for example, facebook.com/yourbrand/australia or facebook.com/yourbrand/canada), AgencyAnalytics connects to one specific regional Page. The likes count shown in AgencyAnalytics reflects that regional Page only, not a combined total across all regions.
If your numbers don't match, check which regional Page is connected to AgencyAnalytics, then compare it directly to that same regional Page on Facebook (not the main brand page). The numbers should align once you're looking at the same regional Page.
Why do I see Paid metrics in my Facebook integration if Facebook Ads is a separate integration?
The Facebook integration shows both organic and paid metrics for your Facebook Page content. "Paid" in this context means posts that were boosted, existing social posts you paid to show to a wider audience. Boosted posts appear in your Facebook integration because they start as regular social content.
Facebook Ads is separate. It only tracks dedicated advertising campaigns, not boosted social posts.
So if you see Paid reach or Paid video views in your Facebook integration, that's performance from boosted posts. Advertising campaign data lives in your Facebook Ads integration instead.
Why am I seeing Reach discrepancies?
Total Reach aggregation differs between the native Facebook Insights platform and the Facebook API, which AgencyAnalytics uses to fetch Facebook Social data. The native Facebook Insights platform uses a unique user metric to calculate total Page Reach, which is not yet available in the API.
AgencyAnalytics uses the raw daily data from 'page_impressions_unique' and sums it up from our end. The daily Reach values fed through the Facebook API can contain duplicate people, as Facebook does not prune daily results from its API response to ensure the totals match. Facebook also estimates its Reach values, so it won't be a 100% exact match when compared within AgencyAnalytics.
If the AgencyAnalytics reach is very high compared to the native Facebook Insights reach, that suggests a lot of repeat users are checking in daily, or at least quite frequently, over the selected date range. If Reach values closely match, that suggests people are visiting the Page only once and not coming back again.
Where is the Followers metric fetched from?
"Followers" is a metric AgencyAnalytics generates using daily new followers. It is not provided by the Facebook API. You can also use the "Total Likes" metric instead, which is an actual native Facebook metric.
What are "Other" engagements on Facebook?
Facebook defines these other engagements as "Other types, such as check-ins". This is covered in their documentation here in general and more specifically here. Since Facebook measures this metric and then sends it through via their API, we're not able to provide more information beyond this.
What does the error "Please reduce the amount of data you're asking for, then retry your request" mean?
This error appears when the Facebook account connected to AgencyAnalytics has too many Facebook Pages assigned to it. Facebook's API can't process requests for accounts managing a very large number of pages at once.
To resolve it, reduce the number of Facebook Pages associated with the connected user account on Facebook. We recommend keeping it under 300 pages. Once you've done that, reconnect the integration, and the error should clear.
Why don't my two Total Reach widgets match when one uses an Age or Gender dimension?
When you break down Total Reach by Age or Gender, the number will be lower than a standard Total Reach widget. This happens because some Facebook users opt out of sharing demographic information with Facebook. Those users still count toward your total reach, but Facebook can't include them in age or gender breakdowns, so the numbers won't match. This is expected behavior driven by user privacy settings, not a data error.
