Overview
Report templates allow agencies to establish a standard report design once and apply it across multiple clients, streamlining the reporting workflow. AgencyAnalytics offers two levels of templating: full report templates (complete report layouts) and section templates (individual reusable components within reports).
Create a Report Template
Report templates can be created from scratch, cloned from existing templates, or based on previous client reports.
Step 1: Navigate to Templates in the left sidebar. It will automatically open on the Reports tab.
Step 2: Click Create Template.
Step 3: Choose your template type:
Report: Great for sending to current clients
Proposal: Your pitch to attract new clients
We'll choose the Report in this example.
Step 4: Choose your template format:
Slide deck: Landscape orientation for screen presentations
Document: Portrait orientation for independent review.
Step 5: Select a source:
Blank Report Template: Start from scratch
Template: Use a premade template from Agency Analytics
Clone Existing Report: Clone from an existing template you've made
Step 6: Name the template, click Continue, and it will load the report in the editor.
The system auto-saves changes; look for save indicators in the upper right.
Using a Template for New Reports
Step 1: From the left sidebar, select Reports and click Create Report.
Step 2: Choose your report type:
Client Report: For individual clients
Roll-Up Report: For multiple clients, locations, or brands
From the dropdown, select the Client or Client(s) you'll be reporting on and click Continue.
Step 3: In the setup wizard, select Slide Deck or Document Report, then Template.
Step 4: From the drop-down, choose:
All Templates
My Report Templates
Default Report Templates (AgencyAnalytics's professionally designed, pre-configured templates.)
Step 5: Select a template to see the preview on the right and then click Continue to customize it.
The report design editor will open, where you can add any additional customizations for the specific Client.
Report Page Templates
Creating Report Page Templates
Save individual pages as reusable templates to use across multiple reports.
Step 1: Navigate to a report with a page you want to save, or design a new page.
Step 2: Hover over the page name in the left sidebar and click the Ellipsis menu.
Step 3: Click Save Section as Template.
Step 4: Enter a name for the template in the popover that appears.
Step 5: Click Save.
The template becomes account-wide and can be edited from the Pages tab on the Template page.
Adding Report Page Templates
Add saved page templates to your reports.
Step 1: In the report editor, click Add Page in the top left.
Step 2: Scroll to the bottom of the section list to find Templates. Click it to expand Templates to view all your saved page templates.
Step 3: Click a template to preview it on the right side.
Step 5: Click Add Page Template in the bottom left to insert it into your report.
Note: Changes made to a template instance affect only that specific report section, not the original template. This allows you to customize templates per client while keeping the original template unchanged for future use.
Editing Report Templates
Open Templates and select Reports, then click any template to edit it.
Changes affect only the template itself; previously created reports remain unchanged.
To update existing reports with template changes, use the bulk template application feature (see below).
Changes are autosaved, but confirm the autosave indicator has updated before closing. Click the X in the upper right corner to exit.
Bulk Apply a Template to Existing Reports
Use the bulk application tool to roll out a template to reports that have already been created. For example, to standardize the look across all client reports at once.
Step 1: From the Reports tab and list, select multiple reports using the checkboxes.
Step 2: Click Apply Template at the top of the column.
Step 3: Choose your template from the list and click Apply Template
Warning: This action overwrites existing report content and cannot be reversed. Ensure you have backups or are comfortable replacing the current report design before proceeding.
Deleting a Report Template
Step 1: Navigate to Templates and confirm you are on the Reports page.
Step 2: Select templates using the checkboxes.
Step 3: Click Delete.
Step 4: Click Delete in the pop-up to confirm.
Note: Deleting a template doesn't affect reports previously created from that template. They retain their current design.
FAQ Report Templates
Will editing a report template affect reports I've already created from it?
No. Template changes only apply to new reports created from that template. To update existing reports, use the Bulk Template Application feature.
Can I edit a section template after I've added it to a report?
Changes to an added section template affect only that specific instance in that report. The original account-wide template remains unchanged, so you can reuse it in other reports without those customizations.
Can I delete a template if I've already used it?
Yes. Deleting a template doesn't affect reports or sections already created from it. They'll retain their current design.
What's the difference between report templates and page templates?
Report templates are complete report designs (layout, pages, and sections). Page templates are individual components you can save and reuse within any report. You typically create page templates to reuse a specific page across multiple reports.
