Custom Goals
Custom goals allow you to set and track the performance of a metric of your choice. These custom goals can then be added as widgets to reports and custom dashboards.
Some examples of tracking performance using custom goals include:
Google Ads spend
E-commerce sales
Facebook Ads clicks
Create a goal based on a custom metric
This feature is only available on some of our plans. If you're unsure if you have access, check our pricing page or contact our support team.
Create Custom Goals
From the Home page, click Goals in the sidebar menu. This will take you to the account-level Goals page. From here, you can create and manage goals across your Clients.
Click Create Goal in the upper right corner. In the pop-up, choose to create a new Goal or clone an existing one.
Click Continue to open the Goal Details.
Next, select the client you want to create a Goal for, and enter a name for the Goal. This is used to identify the Goal in Goal tables and will appear on Goal widgets.
In the Metric field, start typing the metric name to generate a dropdown list of possible matches, then click the Metric to select it.
Alternatively, click the integration name, then scroll to find the Metric.
After selecting a Metric, click its name and select either a recurring or one-time Goal Type. Recurring Goals repeat at set intervals, while One-time goals can be open-ended or include a Due Date.
Lastly, fill in the remainder of the Goal details. The table below describes each field and its purpose.
Name | Used to identify the Goal; this name will appear on Goal widgets |
Recurring | The time period the goal measures against, or for |
Metric | The integration metric that the custom goal will be tracking |
Condition | Choose the rule that triggers the custom goal |
Target Value | Sets the goal threshold |
Description | An optional field for details explaining the purpose or content of the goal |
When all fields are complete, click Create to finish your new Custom Goal.
Using Google Sheets data in Custom Goals
Adding a Google Sheets metric for a Custom Goal requires a few more steps than a standard integration metric, as you must manually select the columns and spreadsheet tab your data will pull from.
Open an existing or create a new Custom Goal.
Click the Metric field, click Google Sheets, then choose the column that corresponds to the data in your spreadsheet.
Choose the associated spreadsheet, then specify the tab, date column, and aggregator type.
Complete the rest of the standard Custom Goal fields, then click create in the bottom left.
Note: To ensure the date column is valid, it must be formatted as a date column. In the Google Sheet, select the column then click Format > Number > Date.
Edit Custom Goals
In the Goals table, click the ... to the far right of your chosen Goal, and click Edit.
This will launch the Goal popup, where you can change any of the Goal fields as needed. When you're finished editing, click Save in the bottom left.
Clone Custom Goals
In the sidebar menu, click the Goals tab at the top to open account-level goal management. In the Goals table, click the ... to the far right of your chosen Goal, and click Clone.
In the Goals editor, click the Client dropdown, then click to select the Client for this cloned Goal. When all required fields are filled in, click Create at the bottom to complete cloning this goal.
Understanding the Goals page
At the top of the Goals page are three widgets that track the statuses of your goals. When viewing the Goals page within a Client, these widgets will only show data for that Client.
The goals table can be adjusted to display different columns by clicking the settings button in the upper right and then selecting the data to display.
Add a Custom Goal widget to a Dashboard or Report
After you've created a custom goal, you can add it to a dashboard or report the same way you'd add other widgets.
Click Goals at the bottom of the toolbar on the right, then drag and drop the custom goal onto the dashboard or report.
Text-Based Widget Visualization for Goals
Text-based visualization is particularly useful for tracking progress on metrics like conversion rate and cost per metrics (e.g. CPC).
To turn this on, click the Custom Goal widget then under General toggle on the Text option.
