Now that you've mastered widget basics, it's time to unlock their full power through advanced filtering and configuration.
There are tons of possibilitiesโโwe've tried to highlight the most universal data filter and configure options. If you'd like to customize the branding of widgets instead, click here!
Filtering widgets
From the report editor or a dashboard in edit mode, click the widget you want to filter, then click the Data tab of the Edit widget menu on the right.
Click any of the available dropdown menus, then click the checkboxes to filter the widget. Due to variances between integration APIs, each integration metric may have different filter options.
See a widget you need to edit? Quickly enter edit mode on dashboards by hovering over a widget, clicking the ellipsis in the top right, and then clicking Edit in the dropdown!
Different graph styles will also have different filters, like sorting bar charts by a specific metric or limiting the number of options the chart displays.
Table widgets can also be filtered, allowing you to add, remove, or reorganize metric columns as needed.
Advanced keyword filtering for Google integrations
Advanced filters allow for even more granular control over your data, as you can drill down to the specific details you need for the most effective reporting and analysis.
The below table indicates which filters can be switched to advanced filters.
Google Analytics 4 ๐ | Audience filter, Events, Channel, Source/Medium, Pages |
Google Ads ๐ฏ | Campaign, Ad Group, Conversion action name, Region |
Google Search Console ๐ | Keyword, Page |
From the report editor or a dashboard in edit mode, click the widget you want to filter, then click the Data tab of the Edit widget menu on the right.
Hover over one of the basic filters, then click the advanced filter to switch to a keyword or path filter.
In the blank field, type in the keyword or path that you wish to filter the widget by. After a few moments, the widget will update to display only data that matches the keyword or path you entered.

Filter widgets for specific ad campaigns
From the report editor or a dashboard in edit mode, click the widget you want to filter, then click the Data tab of the Edit widget menu on the right.
Scroll to the Ad Campaign filter, then click the dropdown. Search by keyword, then check the boxes to include those campaigns in this widget's filter.
Filter widgets to include or exclude PPC markup
After configuring Agency Markup, it will be automatically turned on for any new widgets you add to a dashboard or report. Widgets created before setting up PPC markup will need to be manually updated to show PPC.
Edit the dashboard or report, then click the widget you wish to update. In the Edit widget menu, click the Data tab and scroll to PPC Markup.
Click the dropdown, then click Show. The widget will update to reflect the PPC total, including the agency markup you configured at the account or client level.
Configuring widgets
Set individual widget date ranges
In edit mode on a dashboard or in the report editor, click the widget you want to update. Under the General tab on the right menu, scroll to Override Date Range, then click the toggle to turn on.
In the date range pop-up, set the date range and comparison period for the selected widgets, then click apply.
The selected widgets will now override the report or dashboard date range to display details from the date range and comparison range you selected.
Add multiple metrics in a single chart widget
Bar, line, and area graph charts allow you to compare two metrics within a single widget.
Click on a compatible widget, then click the Data tab of the Edit Widget menu. Click the Metrics field, then select a second metric to display on the graph.
Once you've selected the second metric, the chart widget will reload. You'll see the first metric name on the left and the second on the right side of the chart.
Add a secondary dimension to a graph widget
Secondary dimensions enable you to display more detailed data for your clients.
The graph below displays data for the GA4 Sessions metric, which is organized by the primary dimension Date.
To add a secondary dimension, click the widget in the report editor or from edit mode in a dashboard, then click the Data tab.
Click the dropdown, then click to select the secondary dimension. In this example, the secondary dimension Device Category has been applied to the bar chart.
Not all metrics will have or be compatible with all secondary dimensions; this is determined by the integration API and the dimensions included when the data is sent.
Add thresholds and annotations to graph widgets
Adding thresholds and annotations to your charts is a great way to indicate targets you want to hit or point out changes on your graphs for your clients.
From the report editor or from a dashboard in edit mode, click the widget you want to edit to open the widget sidebar. Click the Annotations or Thresholds tab, then click Add Annotation or Add Threshold at the bottom.
Enter a name for the threshold that will display on the chart and a value for the threshold to display.
In this example, we added a threshold titled 'Monthly Sessions Goal' with a value of 1000, making it easy to see at a glance which months we exceeded our goal.
Annotations are notes added to a specific date on the chart. In this example, March was the most successful month of 2024. We created an annotation highlighting that success came from a UI update in Q1.
Display Data Labels, Trendlines, Anomalies and Forecasting
More visual options are available for different chart types under the Display tab of the Edit widget menu.
Click the gray toggle to turn on or off any of the display options for this chart.
Depending on your subscription, you can also toggle on Trend Forecasting and Anomaly Detection under the Display tab.
When the report or dashboard is saved, hovering over the red or green anomaly dots reveals a tooltip with additional information about the anomaly, while hovering over the right half of a chart with trend forecasting reveals a tooltip with basic, optimistic, and pessimistic forecasts.
Add custom tooltips to widgets
Custom tooltips allow you to give your clients additional information about the metrics you're tracking for them.
Click the widget you wish to edit, then enter the desired information in the Tooltip field.
When a Client receives the report or views the dashboard, they can hover over the widget to reveal a blue question mark icon. Move your cursor over the icon to show the custom tooltip.
