🔌 Connect Google Ads

To avoid a failed connection or error when integrating Google Ads to a Client, the person connecting must have:

  • Have at least read permissions for the Google Ads account

  • Be directly invited to the Google Ads account (not just through an MCC)

If the above requirements are met, simply follow these steps to connect:

  1. Open the Client where you'd like to connect Google Ads, then click the Data Sources tab at the top.

  2. Click the blue Connect Data Source button in the upper right corner of the page.

  3. Search for Google Ads in the search bar at the top, then click the Google Ads card.

  4. Click the gray + sign at the bottom to launch the authorization window, then follow the prompts in the OAuth window to verify and finalize the connection.

Next, select the account you want to connect from those available in the connection list, and click Save.

The integration will then be complete, and your client's Google Ads metrics will be imported and displayed within the dashboard.

Common Causes of Google Ads Integration Issues

  • Authentication Errors: The Google account used for the integration may have lost its authentication.

  • Permission Issues: The connected Google account may lack the necessary permissions for the Google Ads account.

  • Stale Connections: The integration may have become outdated or disconnected due to token expiration.

  • Account Status: The connected Google Ads account may be inactive or deactivated.

Troubleshooting Google Ads Integration Issues

  1. Ensure Proper Permissions:

    • Verify that the Google account used has at least read permissions for the Google Ads account.

    • Ensure the account has been directly invited to the Google Ads account (not just through an MCC).

  2. Check Account Status:

    • Confirm that the Google Ads account is active and enabled.

    • If the account is inactive or deactivated, reactivate it before reconnecting.

  3. Resolve Access/Token Issues:

    • Use the Connect New Account option instead of Reconnect to generate a fresh access token.

    • Re-enter the Google account credentials during the authorization process.

❓ FAQs

Why does the integration keep showing as disconnected after reconnecting?

This issue is often caused by permissions or authentication problems. Perform a full reauthorization using the steps above, ensuring all permissions are granted during the process.

Do I need to reconnect for every client?

Yes, if multiple clients’ Google Ads integrations are showing issues, you will need to reconnect each one individually.

Why does the integration show as connected but reports as disconnected?

This can occur due to a mismatch in permissions or outdated authentication. Removing and re-adding the integration usually resolves this issue.

What formula is being used to calculate the Conversion Rate?

  • Total Conversions á Total Interactions × 100 = Conversion Rate (%)

Why isn't a conversion action being pulled?

Conversion actions must have a value for at least one metric to display on our end. If a conversion action has no values on the native side, then the conversion name will not be available in AgencyAnalytics.

In the above example, neither conversion action have any values. With no values, the conversion action will not be available via the Google Ads API.

Turning on "Show Zero Conversions" won't make these appear; that filter is only applied to conversion actions displayed in our app.

Why is ROAS not a standard metric in Google Ads?

ROAS is not a static metric visible from the native Google Ads dashboard. Customers must define how they calculate ROAS in Google Ads.

Custom metrics on our end should help users calculate their specific ROAS. Support should not provide a ROAS formula as it may lead to issues down the road.

Where is the Cost Per Conversion metric?

The cost per conversion was previously sent to us directly from Google Ads' API. However, this metric is no longer available via their API, meaning it is also no longer available on our platform. If Google Ads brings this or a similar metric back, we will do our best to support it.

What is Google Ad Grants?

Google Ad Grants is a free service offered by Google Ads to non-profit organizations. Teams get $10,000 monthly to use in-text ads. More information on this program here.

Why do I need to know about Google Ad Grants?

Google Ad Grants are set up as their own Google Ads account. This means if a team has a Google Ad Grants account and their regular one, they can connect both in a campaign up to their subscription maximum.

What is the difference between the "Calls" and "Phone Calls" metrics?

"Calls" and "Phone Calls" are two separate metrics with two different sources.

  • "Calls" is from the Call Metrics Call Details Report.
